What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a TV presenter, when I grew up, but actually fate took me down a different path and strangely enough, just earlier this year, I had to turn down the opportunity to present for the teaching channel of a famous British corporation - what once would have been a dream job for me.
Why?
Well, there was my day job of teaching and writing that was keeping me busy. We often spend a few months in India taking care of property and things out there (and this job would have meant me being in London all of the time). I've got a chronic condition and have to be mindful of not taking on too many things. And, mum and I had just re-launched our business, The Blesséd Brew, selling our Indian speciality coffee from our own estate and its neighbours to the UK market.
Many of you who have been following the saga and the ups and downs of doing so (and thank you for your support throughout) know that it's been a struggle to get the coffee here. But being able to bring Kindness in Every Cup is a project we think its worth pursuing.
Not only does our coffee taste pretty good (it's been highly Q-rated and has had lot of lovely feedback), but as it's ethically and sustainably grown, using traditional farming methods, and it does good too.
As a social enterprise, 51% of our profits goes towards supporting charities in the UK and India, such as the Anugraha Girls' Home. This is a lovely little home that offers a safe, comfortable, and a caring environment for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their parents may have AIDS, or leprosy - one the girls has leprosy too, but you would never know it - or they may have parents who are migrant workers who travel to work in the many construction sites across India and live in tents - definitely not the place any family would want to be, let alone bring up a daughter.
The Anugraha Girls' Home offers these girls education, food, and an environment that enables them to dream big. It gives them the opportunity to grow up to be anything they want to be and when I was lucky enough to meet some of them earlier this year, they were happy to share their dreams with me. As for me, well, who knows, I still may be a TV presenter one day. To be honest, I still don't really know what I want to be when I grow up. How about you?
