Let the Monsoons Rain!
We might be missing the rain here in the UK, but Bonavanthi Coffee Estate, India is certainly getting its fair share, and thank God too, because a beautiful rainfall, means ... hopefully... a beautiful coffee harvest!
Monsoon Season at Kulkumry and Bonavanthi Coffee Estate
Although ours is not Monsoon Malabar Coffee, which sees coffee cherries harvested, processed, and then deliberately exposed to the moist monsoon air for several weeks, our all Indian coffee is deeply indebted to the monsoons.
A Time of Pure Drama
The monsoons transform the landscape with dramatic skies, thunder and lightning shows to take your breath away, and the beautiful lush greenery that follows days of rain. The smell is incredible and I wish we could bottle it!
Natural Irrigation Methods for Kulkumry and Bonavanthi
Beautiful rains all mean that our ground water levels can be kept topped up and at Kulkumry Coffee Estate (home to The Blesséd Brew), we only use natural irrigation from a spring to water our coffee plants which are grown and harvested using non-invasive traditional methods that are kind to the people, creatures, and plants that live on our estate.
In this video you can see our lovely neighbouring estate, Bonavath, which does the same. This is home to the Monfort Fathers who manage both estates and of course, give our coffee a special blessing.
